Siemens fixed telephone: increased off-load current
E39, E53 with GSM car phone with cordless keypad handset (option 630) and BMW
Business radio (option 661)
Complaint:
Vehicles equipped with GSM car phone with cordless keypad handset (SBDH) and BMW
Business radio together with CD drive or MD drive may have increased off-load current
consumption of approx. 1.2 A.
This situation results in continuous discharge of the vehicle battery.
Complaint 1:
The afterrunning timer of the SBDH telephone is set more than "zero minutes":
After terminal R has been switched off and the set afterrunning time has elapsed, the
telephone continues to send further cyclical signals on the "TelOn" line thus preventing the
radio from assuming "sleep mode".
Complaint 2:
The afterrunning timer of the SBDH telephone is set to "zero minutes":
The radio is switched on and off again at terminal 30. After terminal R has been switched
off, the telephone continues to send further cyclical signals on the "TelOn" line, thus
preventing the radio from assuming "sleep mode".
Cause:
The transceiver (BIT II) of the telephone sends a signal on the "TelOn" line at regular
intervals so that the radio cannot assume "sleep mode".
Affected
vehicles:
E39, E53 GSM car phone with cordless keypad handset (option 630) with BMW Business
radio (option 661) in connection with CD drive (option 650) or in connection with MD drive
(option 651) without DSP amplifier (option 677); telephone provisions (option 640) and
retrofitted option 630.
Production period:
E39, E53: from December 2000 to April 2001
Action:
Retrofit adapter lead.
The adapter lead consists of a low-pass filter (R/C element) and prevents interference
signals being sent on the "TelOn" line.
Procedure:
The following action should be carried out in the case of complaint relating to a discharged
battery caused by problem 1 or 2:
E39
1.
Open flap in left-hand luggage compartment trim panel.
2.
Expose neutral-coloured 12-pin connector X400 (on the saloon it is necessary to
remove the transceiver together with the mounting bracket) and disconnect the plug
connection.
Installation location X400: please refer to DIS
Do not confuse connector X400 (telephone plug) with connector X322 (radio plug).
The connector may be neutral-coloured or black.
The connector is X400 only if a brown/black ground wire is assigned to pin 7 (for pin
assignments see DIS). Pin 7 is not used on X322.
