Converting belt drive for A/C compressor
E53 / X5 4,6is
Complaint:
Poly-V-belt for A/C compressor torn
Cause:
In unfavourable cases, the design of the belt drive for the A/C compressor can cause the
poly-V-belt to tear.
Affected vehicles:
E53 with engine M62/4,6is
Manufacturing period: Start of series production until end of series production (September
2003)
Remedy:
In case of customer complaint, convert the belt drive for the A/C compressor.
Procedure:
Perform the conversion as described below:
Make sure that tab (1) on oil dipstick
guide tube (2) is shortened at the point
marked (3) or that an equivalent
technical modification has already been
implemented.
Please refer to Technical Campaign
00 11 91 01 00
If necessary, perform the Technical
Campaign before performing the
conversion.
Remove drive belt (1) for A/C
compressor,
please refer to RA 11 28 050
.
Completely unscrew nuts (2).
Remove bolt (3) and remove the belt
tensioning system (4).
