Removing and installing/replacing steering
column (S54)
Necessary preliminary tasks:
•
Remove steering spindle lower section from steering column
•
Remove steering column trims
•
Replacement only: Remove fixture for steering column stalk
•
Remove trim panel for pedal assembly
•
Remove footwell air duct
Remove plug connection (1) from holder and disconnect.
Cut open cable tie and press wiring harness downwards.
Note:
Make sure there is a sufficient gap between wiring harness and
steering column so that the steering column can be removed later
without any danger.
Unfasten screws (2).
Tightening torque 32 31 6AZ
.
Disconnect plug connections on ignition starter switch, ring aerial
and steering column switch cluster.
Unclip wiring harness from steering column and place to one side.
Release bolts (1) (long).
Tightening torque 32 31 6AZ
.
Secure steering column against falling out.
Release bolts (2) (short).
Tightening torque 32 31 6AZ
.
