Removing and installing/replacing both
exhaust manifolds (N52)

Warning!

Scalding hazard!

Only perform this work after engine has cooled down.

Necessary preliminary tasks:

Remove tension strut on spring strut dome

Remove upper heat shield

Remove reinforcement plate on front axle carrier

Remove complete exhaust system

Note:

Front exhaust manifold with catalytic converter can only be
removed after rear exhaust manifold with catalytic converter has
first been removed.

The oxygen sensors are in danger of being damaged when the
exhaust manifolds are removed and installed.

Remove oxygen control sensors.

Remove oxygen monitor sensors.

Release bolts and lower control arm (1).

Installation:

Check threads for damage; if necessary, repair with Helicoil thread
inserts.

Replace screws.

Tightening torque 31 12 7AZ.

Release nut and remove heat shield (2).
