Steering Column: Service and Repair
Steering Column - Removal and Installation
Removal
1.
Disconnect battery ground cable.
2.
Remove left instrument panel sound absorber, trim pad and column trim collar.
3.
Remove bolt and disconnect column to intermediate shaft connection.
4.
Remove column support bracket bolts and nut.
5.
Disconnect shift indicator cable and electrical connectors.
6.
Disconnect shift cable at actuator and housing holder, then remove column assembly from vehicle.

Installation
1.
Install column assembly in vehicle, Fig. 20.
2.
Connect shift cable at actuator and housing holder, then the electrical connectors.
3.
Connect shift indicator cable and install column bracket support bolts and nut.
4.
Install intermediate shaft to column upper shaft pinch bolt and torque to 35 ft. lbs.
5.
Torque column bracket support bolts and nut to 20 ft. lbs.
6.
Install column trim collar, left instrument panel trim pad and sound insulator, then connect battery ground cable.
