Steering Gear: Service and Repair
Removal/Installation

1.
Install engine support fixture No. J-28467-A or equivalent.
2.
Raise and support vehicle, then remove both front wheel assemblies.
3.
Remove intermediate shaft lower pinch bolt, then intermediate shaft from stub shaft.
4.
Disconnect tie rod ends from steering knuckles.
5.
If equipped, remove brake line retaining bolts from heat shield, then heat shield.
6.
Support engine frame at rear with jack stand, then remove engine mounts to frame attaching bolts.
7.
Remove rear engine frame retaining bolts, then loosen front engine retaining bolts. Do not remove front engine retaining bolts.
8.
Lower engine frame at rear 4 to 5 inches. Do not lower frame more than specified, as damage to engine components may result.
9.
Remove steering gear heat shield, then line retaining clip from steering gear.
10.
Disconnect and cap pump lines at steering gear.
11.
Remove steering gear assembly mounting bolts, Fig. 11, then steering gear assembly through left wheel opening.
12.
Reverse procedure to install, torquing all bolts/nuts to specifications.
