Radiator Cooling Fan Motor: Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview
System Check
Models Less Heavy Duty Cooling
1.
With ambient temperature above 60°F, start car and set A/C mode selector to the MAX position. Coolant fan should turn on.
2.
With engine coolant below operating temperature, move A/C mode selector to OFF. Coolant fan should turn off in a short time period.
3.
Run engine at fast idle until engine coolant becomes hot. Coolant fan should come on and run before coolant temperature indicator comes on or
the coolant temperature gauge reads hot.
Models w/Heavy Duty Cooling
1.
With ambient temperature above 60°F, start car and set A/C mode selector to the MAX position. Puller coolant fan should turn on.
2.
With engine coolant below operating temperature, move A/C mode selector to OFF. Puller coolant fan should turn off in a short time period.
3.
Run engine at fast idle until engine coolant becomes hot. Puller coolant fan should come on when coolant temperature reaches 202°F and the
pusher coolant fan should come on when coolant temperature reaches 226°F.
