Water Pump: Service and Repair

1983-88
1.
Disconnect battery ground cable.
2.
Drain cooling system, then remove accessory drive belts.
3.
Remove lower radiator hose and heater hose at pump.
4.
On 1983 models, remove two nuts from front engine mount at cradle, then raise engine using a suitable lifting device and remove water pump
pulley attaching bolts.
5.
On 1984-88 models, remove water pump pulley attaching bolts. Long bolt is removed through access hole located in the body side rail.
6.
On all models, remove water pump pulley.
7.
Remove water pump attaching bolts, then the water pump, Fig. 21.
8.
Reverse procedure to install.
