Power Steering Line/Hose: Service and Repair
Power Steering Gear Lines (Right or Left)

J 28467-A Engine Support Fixture

-

J 28467-90 Adapters

-

J 36462 Adapter Leg

-

Or Equivalents

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT

1. Air cleaner and duct. 
2. Install J 28467-A J 28467-90 and J 36462.
3. Raise and suitably support vehicle. 
4. Right and left front wheel and tire. 

CAUTION:  Failure to disconnect intermediate shaft from power steering gear stub shaft can result in damage to steering gear and/or
intermediate shaft. This damage can cause loss of steering control which could result in personal injury.

NOTICE:  Set steering shaft so block tooth on upper steering shaft is at the 12 o'clock position, wheels on vehicle are straight ahead and set
ignition switch to "LOCK" position. Failure to follow these procedures could result in damage to the Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) coil.

5. Intermediate steering shaft lower bolt.
6. Loosen right side engine splash shield. 
7. Both left and right side tie rod nuts and tie rods from steering knuckles. 
8. Support rear of frame, using jack stands.

NOTICE:  Do not lower rear of frame too far as damage to engine components nearest to the cowl may result.

9. Both rear frame bolts.

10. Power steering lines clamp from steering gear.
11. Line from steering gear.

INSTALL OR CONNECT

NOTICE:  Always use the correct fastener in the proper location. When you replace a fastener, use ONLY the exact part number for that application.
The manufacturer will call out those fasteners that require a replacement after removal. The manufacturer will also call out the fasteners that require
thread lockers or thread sealant. UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED, do not use supplemental coatings (paints, greases, or other corrosion inhibitors)
on threaded fasteners or fastener joint interfaces. Generally, such coatings adversely affect the fastener torque and the joint clamping force, and may
damage the fastener. When you install fasteners, use the correct tightening sequence and specifications. Following these instructions can help you
avoid damage to parts and systems.

1. Line to steering gear.
2. Line clamp and lines to steering gear.
3. Raise frame and align steering gear stub shaft to intermediate steering shaft.
4. New rear frame bolts. 
5. Remove jack stands from frame.
6. Both tie rod ends and nuts to steering knuckles. 
7. Tighten right side engine splash shield.

CAUTION:  When installing the intermediate shaft make sure the shaft is seated prior to pinch bolt installation. If the pinch bolt is
inserted into the coupling before shaft installation, the two mating shafts may disengage.

NOTICE:  Set steering shaft so block tooth on upper steering shaft is at the 12 o'clock position, wheels on vehicle are straight ahead and set
ignition switch to "LOCK" position. Failure to follow these procedures could result in damage to the SIR coil.

8. Intermediate shaft lower bolt.

Tighten bolt to 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.). 

9. Electrical connection to steering gear pressure switch.

10. Both front wheel and tire. 
11. Lower vehicle.
12. Remove J 28467-A, J 28467-90 and J 36462.
13. Air cleaner and duct. 
14. Fill system.

Adjust bleed power steering system.

Inspect for leaks.
