Bulletin:

Date:
May '91
Ref. No.: 86-223-6
Corp. Ref. No.: 136001
SUBJECT:
EXCESS PAINT IN FLYWHEEL MOUNTING HOLES ON GOODWRENCH
ENGINE RECEIVED FROM GENERAL MOTORS SERVICE PARTS OPERATION
(CLEAN MOUNTING HOLES)
MODELS AFFECTED: 1984-86 CENTURY WITH 2.5L ENGINE (VIN CODE R)
1984-85 SKYLARK WITH 2.5L ENGINE (VIN CODE R)
NOTE:
THIS APPLIES TO GOODWRENCH PARTIAL ENGINES ONLY (P/N 10101781)
CONDITION:
Incorrect clamp load on Flywheel bolts.
CAUSE:
Paint accumulation in the Flywheel mounting holes. This will create a false torque condition. The Flywheel may seem to be secure, however, it will soon
begin to move under normal engine conditions and may elongate the mounting holes in the Flywheel.
CORRECTION:
The Flywheel mounting hole threads should be cleaned out with a tap. The holes should be retapped with a M-10X1.5-6H standard tap.
Use Existing Labor Operation Number and Times.
