Wheel Bearing: Adjustments

FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS ADJUSTMENT

1.

Raise and support front of vehicle.

2.

Remove wheel hub dust cap.

3.

Remove spindle nut cotter pin, then while rotating wheel assembly forward, torque spindle nut to 12 ft. lbs. to seat bearings.

4.

Loosen spindle nut slightly to ``the just loose'' position.

5.

Hand tighten spindle nut, then install cotter pin. If cotter pin cannot be installed, loosen spindle nut until hole in the spindle lines up with a slot in
the nut. Do not loosen more then 1/2 flat of the nut.

6.

With wheel bearings properly adjusted, endplay should be .001 to .005 inch.
