Fig. 31 Transmission vacuum valve adjustment (Typical)

1. Remove air crossover, then install screened covers J26996-2.
2. Remove throttle rod from throttle lever on V8 models or disconnect throttle cable and TV detent cable on V6 models, then loosen transmission

vacuum valve injection pump bolts.

3. Install carburetor angle gauge J26701-15 and adapter on injection pump throttle lever, Fig. 31.
4. Rotate throttle lever to the wide open position and set angle gauge to zero degrees.
5. Center bubble in level, then set angle gauge to  engines or 49° on V6 engines.
6. Rotate throttle lever so level bubble is centered.
7. Attach a suitable vacuum pump to center port of vacuum valve and install a vacuum gauge to outside port of vacuum valve, then apply 18-22

inches of vacuum.

8. Rotate vacuum valve clockwise to obtain 10.6 inches of vacuum, then tighten vacuum valve bolts. Remove vacuum gauge and vacuum pump.
9. Install throttle rod to bellcrank, on V8 models or connect throttle cable and TV detent cable on V6 models, then remove screened covers and

install air crossover.
