Expansion Block/Orifice Tube: Service and Repair
Expansion (Orifice) Tube
TOOLS REQUIRED
J 26549-D Expansion Tube Remover (or equivalent)
J 38042 Dual O-Ring Joint Separator (or equivalent)
CAUTION: Brazed fittings are on the condenser and evaporator. These fittings cannot be turned because the fitting is brazed to the pipe. It is important
that the service technician recognize which fitting is to be turned and use backup wrenches. The brazed fitting not to be turned is always the same color
as the pipe it is brazed to (unpainted or unplated aluminum).
REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Recover refrigerant from A/C system, Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recycling. See: Service and Repair
2. Condenser outlet dual O-ring joint using J 38042.
3. Evaporator inlet dual O-ring joint using J 38042.
4. A/C line clips.
5. Expansion tube from line using J 26549-D.
INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. New expansion tube, with short screen toward evaporator.
2. A/C line clips after positioning line.
3. Assemble evaporator inlet and condenser outlet dual O-ring joints simultaneously (hand tight) to assure correct line orientation, then tighten
connections to specifications.

Tighten Dual O-ring joint connections to 24 Nm (18 lb. ft.).
4. Evacuate, charge, and leak test A/C system.
