SIR System Wiring Repair Procedures
Example Of Pigtail (Inflator Module)
SIR SYSTEM WIRING, REPAIR PROCEDURES
Special Repair Procedures below must be followed when repairing SIR System wiring.
1. Wiring which must NOT be repaired:
Any pigtails, or wires attaching directly to a component, may NOT be repaired. if a pigtail is damaged, complete component must be replaced.
Forward Discriminating Sensor. Dual Sensor, SIR Coil Assembly and Inflator Module have pigtailed leads. These pigtails must NOT be repaired.
2. Wiring which may be repaired:
SIR wiring not part of a pigtail. connectors, terminals and Original Equipment Splice.
Wiring not part of a pigtail may be spliced using wire of equal size to original.
Crimp and seal splices MUST be used, part of the J 38125-A Terminal Repair Kit. Use Hand Crimp Tool and Torch from J 38125-A Kit to apply
splice. Instructions to apply crimp and seal splice are in J 38125-A KIT.
Connectors (Plastic Body). When a connector which is not part of pigtail is damaged, it must be replaced. Obtain a Connector Assembly Pack for
damaged connector. Pack contains new connector as well as crimp and seal splices to splice the connector to the harness. Crimp and seal splice
MUST be used.
Use Hand Crimp Tool and torch from J 38125-A Terminal Repair Kit to apply splices. Instructions to apply crimp and seal splices are In
connector Assembly Pack in J 38125-A Kit.
Terminals (Metal Pin). Individual terminals are only available for DERM and SIR Resistor Module connectors. Other connectors must be
completely replaced, even if only one terminal is damaged (see Connectors above). DERM and SIR Resistor Module repair terminals are part of J
38125-A Terminal Repair Kit. They are also available separately. Use only terminals from packages marked for use with DERM or SIR Resistor
Module.
Crimp and seal splice MUST be used. Use Hand Crimp Tool and Torch from J 38125-A Terminal Repair Kit to apply splices. Instructions to
apply crimp and seal splices are in J 38125-A.
Original Equipment Splices. These splices may be repaired using an ordinary splice clip. Crimp and seal splices are not necessary.
