Valve Lifter Replacement 

Removal Procedure 

Important:  Keep all of the valve train parts in order. Reinstall the valve train parts in their original locations and with the same mating surfaces as
when removed.

1. Remove the rocker arms, pushrods, and the pedestals. 
2. Remove the lower intake manifold and gaskets. 
3. Remove the valve guide retainer bolts.
4. Remove the valve guide retainer.
5. Remove the valve lifter guides.
6. Remove the valve lifters.
7. Clean and inspect the valve lifters and guides. 

Installation Procedure 

1. Dip the valve lifters in prelude GM P/N 12345501 (Canadian P/N 992704) or the equivalent.
2. Install the valve lifters.
3. Install the valve lifter guides.
4. Install the valve guide retainer.

Notice:  Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

5. Install the valve guide retainer bolts.

Tighten the valve guide retainer bolts to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.). 

6. Install the lower intake manifold and gaskets. 
7. Install the valve rocker arms, pushrods, and the pedestals.
