Front Crankshaft Seal: Service and Repair

Crankshaft Front Oil Seal Replacement

J 35354 Seal Installer

Removal Procedure 

1. Remove the crankshaft balancer and the bolt. 

Important:  Do not damage the seal bore or the contact surfaces.

2. Use a screwdriver in order to pry out the crankshaft front oil seal.

Installation Procedure 

1. Use the J 35354 in order to install the oil seal.
2. Use the crankshaft balancer bolt with the tool.
3. Tighten the bolt until the crankshaft front oil seal is seated in the engine front cover.
4. Remove the J 35354.
5. Coat the inside seal surface of the crankshaft balancer with lubricant GM P/N 10522497 or equivalent.
6. Install the crankshaft balancer and the bolt.
