Audible Warning Device: Description and Operation

AUDIBLE WARNINGS DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION

The audible warnings alert the driver of a system concern or a critical vehicle condition. The BCM generates the audible warnings. The BCM receives
audible warning requests via the class 2 serial data line from the IPC or through hardware inputs. If the BCM receives multiple audible warning requests,
the warning with the highest priority sounds first. The following lists the audible warning priority and the pulse rate:

1. Fast rate chime (200 pulses per minute)
2. Medium rate chime (150 pulses per minute)
3. Slow rate chime (50 pulses per minute)
4. Single chime

Fasten Safety Belt Warning
The BCM activates the fasten safety belt audible warning at a slow rate and a duration of 5 pulses. The fasten safety belt warning sounds and the
fasten safety belt indicator illuminates when the following occur:
-

The ignition switch transitions to ON.

The BCM detects that the driver's seat belt is not buckled (signal is low). The IPC receives a hardware input from the seat belt switch indicating
the driver seat belt status.

If the seat belt is buckled when the ignition is turned on, the chime does not sound. If the seat belt is buckled while the chime is sounding, the chime
stops. If the seat belt is unbuckled after the initial transition to ON, the chime does not sound.

Headlamps On Warning
The BCM activates the headlamps on warning as requested by the lamp control module (LCM). The chime frequency is a fast rate and the duration is
continuous. The headlamps on warning sounds when the following occur:
-

The ignition is OFF.

-

The BCM receives a class 2 message from the driver door module (DDM) that the driver door is open.

-

The BCM receives a hardware input from the LCM indicating the headlamps or the parklamps are on.

-

The RFA module determines that the key-in-ignition switch is open (signal circuit is high) (key is out of the ignition) and activates a hardware
input to the BCM.

Key-In-Ignition Warning
The BCM activates the key-in-ignition audible warning as requested by the RFA module. The chime frequency is at a medium rate and the duration is
continuous. The key-in-ignition warning sounds when the following occur:
-

The ignition switch is OFF.

-

The BCM receives a class 2 message from the driver door module (DDM) that the driver door is open.

The RFA module determines that the key-in-ignition switch is closed (signal circuit is low) and activates a hardwire input to the BCM.

Turn Signal Reminder
The BCM activates the turn signal warning as requested by the IPC via class 2. The chime frequency is a medium rate, and the duration is continuous.
The turn signal warning sounds when the following occur:
-

The ignition switch is in the RUN position.

-

The turn signal switch is in either turn position.

-

The vehicle has traveled a distance of 1.2 km (0.75 mi).

The IPC turns off the turn signal reminder when either the ignition switch is turned to the OFF position or the turn signal switch returns to the OFF
position.

The ABS indicator

The battery indicator

The BRAKE indicator (low brake fluid)

The BRAKE indicator (vehicle driven more than 20 feet (6.1 meters) with the park brake applied)

The coolant temperature indicator

The DOOR AJAR indicator (vehicle driven more than 20 feet (6.1 meters) with the door ajar input active)

-

The low fuel indicator

-

The low oil pressure indicator

-

The MIL

-

The OVERSPEED indicator (vehicle is traveling at a speed greater than 120 km/h (74 mph))

The TRAC OFF indicator

-

The TRUNK AJAR indicator (vehicle is driven more than 20 feet (6.1 meters) with the trunk ajar input active)
