1.
Disable airbag system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING, then relieve fuel pressure as
outlined under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELIEF.
2.
Disconnect battery ground cable.
3.
On Vin L and 1 engines, remove torque axis mount.
4.
On all engines, remove serpentine belt.
5.
Using pulling tool No. J38197 or equivalent, remove crankshaft pulley.
6.
Remove crankshaft sensor shield, then oil pan to front cover attaching bolts.
7.
Remove front cover attaching bolts, then the front cover.
8.
Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Inspect timing chain for in and out movement, movement should not exceed 1 inch.
b. Check timing chain sprockets for any signs of wear.
c. Clean gasket mating surfaces at timing chain cover and cylinder block.
d. Apply sealant part No. 1052080 or equivalent to bolt threads prior to installation.
e. Adjust crankshaft sensor using tool No. J37087 or equivalent as shown in Fig. 9.
f.
Rearm airbag system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.
