Hydraulic Assembly: Description and Operation
Valve Block
The valve block is attached to the right side of the booster/master cylinder assembly and contains six hydraulic wheel circuit valves. The position of
these valves is controlled by the electronic brake control module (EBCM). The valve block is serviceable separate from the booster/master cylinder
assembly, but should not be disassembled. A seven pin electrical connector is used to make electrical connection from the valve block to the EBCM.
Wheel Circuit Valves
Two solenoid valves are used for each of the three hydraulic wheel circuits (left front, right front and rear). Each hydraulic circuit uses an inlet valve
and an outlet valve. When these valves are used in combination, each hydraulic wheel circuit may be put into the pressure increase, pressure hold and
pressure reduction mode during anti-lock mode. The position of each valve is determined by the EBCM, outlet valves are normally closed and inlet
valves are normally open. Valve are activated when the EBCM switches 12 volts to the appropriate valve circuit. During normal driving and braking, the
wheel circuit valves are not activated.
Ground Reference Line
A ground reference circuit is included at the 7 pin valve block connector. This circuit is used by the EBCM to verify that the hydraulic unit and valve
block are grounded through their mounting on the front of the dash. If ground is lost at the hydraulic unit, anti-lock function would be disabled.
