Horn Switch: Service and Repair

    If the airbag has been deployed, inspect coil for signs of scorching, melting, or other damage. Coil must be replaced if damaged.

1.

Disarm airbag as outlined under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG DEACTIVATION. Failure to do so may result in accidental
deployment of airbag, possibly causing personal injury.

2.

Turn ignition switch to the Off position, disconnect battery negative cable.

3.

Remove Torx screws from back of steering wheel.

4.

Remove inflator module from wheel. Always carry live inflator modules with the trim cover facing away from you. Never carry module by
the wiring. Always place module on a flat surface with the trim cover facing up.

5.

Remove horn contact by pushing slightly and twisting counterclockwise.

6.

Disconnect Connector Position Assurance (CPA) and coil assembly connector from inflator module.

7.

Remove steering column shaft nut.

8.

Remove steering wheel using puller No. J 1859-03 or equivalent. Do not thread puller bolts too far in steering wheel. Threading puller bolts
too far into steering wheel could damage SIR coil assembly. Four turns is sufficient.

9.

Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Torque the steering wheel shaft nut to 30 ft. lbs.
b. Torque the SIR module retaining screws to 27 inch lbs.
c. After all work has been completed, rearm airbag as outlined under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG ACTIVATION
