Fuel Injector: Service and Repair

Injector Installation

REMOVAL

1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
2. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel Delivery and Air Induction / Service and Repair.
3. Remove the intake manifold plenum.
4. Remove the fuel rail assembly.

CAUTION:  Use care in removing injectors to prevent damage to the electrical connector pins on the injector, and the nozzle. The fuel injector is
serviced as a complete assembly only. Since it is an electrical component, do not be immerse it in cleaner.

5. Remove the injector retainer clip and discard clip.
6. Remove the injector assembly.
7. Remove the injector O-ring seals from both ends of injector and discard.

NOTE:  Each injector is calibrated for a specific flow rate. When replacing the fuel injectors, order replacements with the identical part number as
the old injectors. See Application and ID.

INSTALLATION

1. Lubricate the new injector O-ring seals with engine oil, and install on injector assembly.
2. Install the new injector retainer clips on injector assembly.
3. Position the open end of clip facing injector electrical connector.
4. Install the injector assembly into fuel rail injector socket with electrical connectors facing outward.
5. Push the injector assembly in far enough to engage retainer clip with machined slots on rail socket.
6. Install the fuel rail assembly.

INSPECTION

Temporarily connect the negative battery terminal.

Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position for two seconds, then turn to the "OFF" position for ten seconds. Again turn to the "ON" position
and check for fuel leaks.

Disconnect the negative battery terminal.

7. Install the intake manifold plenum.
8. Tighten the fuel filler cap.
9. Connect the negative battery terminal.

NOTE:  The Electronic Control Module (ECM) will need to relearn the Idle Air Control (IAC) valve pintle position following battery
reconnection. This procedure allows the ECM memory to be updated and provides for a stable idle speed.

Idle Learn Procedure
1. Install the Tech 1 "SCAN" tool.
2. Ignition "ON" engine "OFF".
3. Select the "IAC SYSTEM", then "IDLE LEARN" in the "MISC. TEST" mode.
4. Proceed with the idle learn as directed by the Tech 1 "SCAN" tool.
