AND A/C MODULE ASSEMBLY (PROCEDURE REVISIONS)

SERVICE MANUAL UPDATE -- SECTION 1B
The following procedures have been revised for the 1988-91 Regal Service Manual. Please use the following procedures for removing or installing the
mode valve vacuum actuator or the A/C module assembly.
Mode Valve Vacuum Actuator
Remove or Disconnect
1.
Windshield side upper garnish moldings. Refer to Roof Section in Service Manual.
2.
Instrument panel pad cover. Refer to Instrument Panel, Clusters and Console (Section 8C).
3.
Instrument panel sound insulators. Refer to Instrument Panel, Clusters and Console (Section 8C).
4.
Steering column trim panel. Refer to Instrument Panel, Clusters and Console (Section 8C).
5.
Parking brake release lever. Refer to Instrument Panel, Clusters and Console (Section 8C).
6.
Lower steering column. Refer to Instrument Panel Clusters and Console (Section 8C).
7.
Seven bolts holding instrument panel assembly, five at top and two at bottom.
8.
Two bolts above steering column.
9.
Pull back instrument panel assembly gently to access mode valve vacuum actuator.
10.
Vacuum line from inoperative vacuum actuator.
11.
Pinch "arrow heads" together and slip actuator shaft off valve lever.
12.
Depress tang on actuator and slip off bracket on module.
Install or Connect
1.
Bracket on module.
2.
Actuator shaft on valve lever. Vacuum line to vacuum actuator.
4.
Move instrument panel assembly back into place.
5.
Two bolts above steering column. Tighten

Two bolts to 1.5 N-m (18 lbs.in.).
6.
Seven bolts holding instrument panel assembly, five at top and two at bottom. Tighten
*
Bolts to 10 N-m (89 lbs.in.).
7.
Lower steering column. Refer to Instrument Panel, Clusters and Console (Section 8C).

9.
Steering column trim panel. Refer to Instrument Panel, Clusters and Console (Section 8C).
10.
Instrument panel sound insulators. Refer to Instrument Panel, Clusters and Console (Section 8C).
11.
Instrument panel pad cover. Refer to Instrument Panel, Clusters and Console (Section 8C).
12.
Windshield side upper garnish moldings. Refer to Roof Section in Service Manual.
A/C Module Assembly
Remove or Disconnect
1.
Instrument panel assembly. Refer to Instrument Panel, Clusters and Console (Section 8C).
2.
Rotate engine forward. Refer to 3.1L V-6 VIN Code T (Section 6A5).
3.
Drain cooling system. Refer to Cooling and Radiator (Section 6B).
4.
Discharge A/C System. Refer to "Discharging, Adding Oil, Evacuating and Charging Procedures" in this section.
5.
A/C lines at evaporator.
