Radiator Cooling Fan Motor: Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview
Troubleshooting Hints - Early Production
1.
If both coolant fans do not operate, check IGN fuse. On 1991 Regal models, check FAN fuse also.
2.
If a coolant fan does not operate, check fusible links E and G on 1989-90 models and N and L on 1991 models.
3.
If coolant fan runs with ignition switch in OFF position, replace suspect coolant fan relay.
4.
On 1989-90 models, if both primary and secondary coolant fans do not come on when refrigerant pressure exceeds 200 psi, disconnect A/C
refrigerant pressure switch. If fans come on, replace switch.
Troubleshooting Hints - Late Production
Try the following checks before doing the System Diagnosis.
1. Check IGN Fuses by visual inspection.
2. Check Fusible Elements by visual inspection.
3. If the Cooling Fan runs with the Ignition Switch in "OFF", replace the suspect Cooling Fan Relay.
