Lifter / Lash Adjuster: Service and Repair

REMOVAL 

1. Remove the left valve rocker arm cover. 
2. Remove the right valve rocker arm cover. 
3. Remove the upper intake manifold. 
4. Remove the lower intake. 
5. Remove the rocker arm bolt(s), bearing(s), rocker arm(s) and retainer(s). 

CAUTION:  Ensure that all valve train parts are kept in order so that they can be reinstalled in their original locations and with the same mating
surfaces as when removed.

6. Remove the pushrod(s).

7. Remove the valve lifter guide bolts.
8. Remove the valve lifter guide(s).
9. Remove the valve lifter(s).

10. Clean all gasket surfaces with degreaser.
11. Clean the valve train parts.
12. Inspect the valve lifters for wear.
13. Inspect the cam lobes for wear.

INSTALLATION 

1. Dip the valve lifter(s) in prelube engine oil before installation.
2. Install the valve lifter(s).
3. Install the valve lifter guide(s).
4. Install the valve lifter guide bolts. Tighten the bolts to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.).
5. Install the pushrod(s).
6. Install the retainer, rocker arm(s), bearing(s) and bolt(s). 
7. Remove the lower intake. 
8. Remove the upper intake manifold.
9. Install the right valve rocker arm cover. 

10. Install the left valve rocker arm cover.
