Oil Filter Adapter: Service and Repair

REMOVAL 

1. Disconnect the battery ground (negative) cable. 
2. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. 
3. Remove the right front tire and wheel. 
4. Remove the inner fender splash shield. See Body and Frame.
5. Disconnect the electrical connector from the oil pressure sensor.
6. Remove the oil filter. Catch the oil in a pan.

7. Remove the four bolts holding the oil filter adapter to the front cover.
8. Remove the following components:

The oil filter adapter

^

The gasket

^

The oil pressure valve and spring

9. Clean the parts in a suitable solvent. Dry the parts.

10. Clean all of the gasket sealing surfaces.
11. Inspect the following areas:

The oil pressure valve and the valve bore for burrs

^

The spring for loss of tension, replace the spring if you are in doubt

INSTALLATION 

1. Install the spring into the front cover.
2. Install the oil pressure valve into the front cover.
3. Install the oil filter adapter and a new gasket.
4. Install the oil filter adapter attaching bolts. Tighten the bolts to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.).
5. Install the oil filter.
6. Connect the electrical connector to the oil pressure sensor.
7. Install the inner fender splash shield. See Body and Frame.
8. Install the right front tire and wheel. 
9. Lower the vehicle.

10. Connect the battery ground (negative) cable. 
11. Inspect for the following conditions:

The oil pressure

^

Proper fluid levels

^

Leaks
