Control Arm: Service and Repair
Front Lower Control Arm Bushings

Horizontal

The rear (horizontal) control arm bushing is serviced with the control arm and cannot be replaced separately.

Vertical

Tools Required:
-

J 21474-4 Nut

-

J 21474-5 Bushing Receiver

-

J 21474-13 Bushing Installer

-

J 21474-27 Puller Bolt

-

J 41014-1 Bushing Remover

-

Or Equivalents

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT

1. Control arm from vehicle. 

Disassemble

Bushing tools as follows:
A. Bolt J 2147-27 with washer through bushing receiver J 21474-5 with larger diameter end over bushing against control arm.
B. Lube bolt threads with high pressure lubricant.
C. Install bushing remover J 41014-1 (large end facing bushing), thrust bearing and nut J 21474-4 onto puller bolt J 21474-27.

2. Tighten nut until bushing is driven out of control arm.
3. Bushing tools.

INSTALL OR CONNECT         

NOTICE:  Always use the correct fastener in the proper location. When you replace a fastener, use ONLY the exact part number for that application.
The manufacturer will call out those fasteners that require a replacement after removal. The manufacturer will also call out the fasteners that require
thread lockers or thread sealant. UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED, do not use supplemental coatings (paints, greases, or other corrosion inhibitors)
on threaded fasteners or fastener joint interfaces. Generally, such coatings adversely affect the fastener torque and the joint clamping force, and may
damage the fastener. When you install fasteners, use the correct tightening sequence and specifications. Following these instructions can help you
avoid damage to parts and systems.

1. Start bushing into control arm.

Assemble

Bushing tool as follows:
A. Bolt J 21474-27 with washer through bushing receiver J 21474-5 with larger diameter end over bushing against control ann.
B. Lube bolt threads with high pressure lubricant.
C. Install bushing installer J 21474-13 (large end facing bushing), thrust bearing and nut J 21474-4 onto bolt J 21474-27.

2. Tighten bolt until bushing is fully seated into control arm.
3. Remove bushing tools.
4. Control arm to frame.
