Wheel Bearing: Service and Repair
Front Suspension

FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS AND/OR HUB

J 28733 Front Hub Spindle Remover

-

Or Equivalents

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT     

NOTICE:  Do not remove nut at this time failure to follow proper sequence of removal may cause permanent bearing damage.

1. Raise vehicle and suitably support. 
2. Tire and wheel. 
3. Loosen drive shaft axle nut one turn.
4. Brake caliper, bracket and rotor. 
5. Drive axle shaft nut.
6. Loosen front wheel drive shaft bearing to knuckle attaching bolts/screws.
7. Using J 28733, push axle splines back out of the front wheel drive shaft bearing.
8. Front wheel drive shaft bearing to knuckle attaching bolts/screws.

Important:  Protect the drive shaft axle seals (boots) from damage during handling.

9. Front wheel drive shaft bearing.

Inspect all components for wear or damage.

INSTALL OR CONNECT             

NOTICE:  Always use the correct fastener in the proper location. When you replace a fastener, use ONLY the exact part number for that application.
The manufacturer will call out those fasteners that require a replacement after removal. The manufacturer will also call out the fasteners that require
thread lockers or thread sealant. UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED, do not use supplemental coatings (paints, greases, or other corrosion inhibitors)
on threaded fasteners or fastener joint interfaces. Generally, such coatings adversely affect the fastener torque and the joint clamping force, and may
damage the fastener. When you install fasteners, use the correct tightening sequence and specifications. Following these instructions can help you
avoid damage to parts and systems.

1. Front wheel drive shaft bearing onto axle shaft splines.
2. New knuckle to front wheel drive shaft bearing attaching bolts/screws.

Tighten drive shaft bearing bolts/screws to 130 Nm (96 ft. lbs.).

3. Rotor, brake caliper and bracket. 
4. New drive axle nut.
5. Tire and wheel. 
6. Lower vehicle.
