Drive Belt: Testing and Inspection
Belt tension is maintained automatically by a spring tensioned idler pulley. Adjustment of serpentine belt is not necessary.
If belt slippage is indicated and belt tensioner indicator is within normal operating range, measure belt tension as follows:
1. Run engine for ten minutes, then shut off and measure belt tension between any two pulleys using V-belt tension gauge tool No. J 23600-B, or
equivalent.
2. Run engine for 30 seconds and repeat measurement.
3. Repeat preceding step, then average all three belt tension measurements. Average tension should be 30-50 lbs.
4. If belt tension is not as specified, replace serpentine drive belt.
