Fig. 21 Marking fuel injection pump adapter w/new timing mark
1. Remove injection pump as outlined previously.
2. Remove injection pump adapter, Fig. 19.
3. Remove seal from injection pump adapter.
4. File mark off injection pump adapter. Do not file mark from injection pump.
5. Position engine to No. 1 cylinder firing position. Align marks on balancer with zero mark on indicator. The injection pump driven gear should be
offset to the right when No. 1 cylinder is at top dead center.
6. Loosely install injection pump adapter.
7. Install seal in injection pump adapter with tool J-28425, Fig. 20.
8. Torque injection pump adapter bolts to 25 ft. lbs.
9. Install timing tool J-26896 into injection pump adapter. Rotate torque wrench counterclockwise to obtain a 50 ft. lbs. reading, then mark injection
pump adapter, Fig. 21.
10. Install injection pump as outlined previously.
