Lifter / Lash Adjuster: Service and Repair

Valve Lifter Replacement 
Removal Procedure

1. Remove the engine left side valve rocker arm cover. 
2. Remove the engine right side valve rocker arm cover. 
3. Remove the upper intake manifold. 
4. Remove the lower intake manifold. 
5. Remove the valve rocker arms and pushrods. 

6. Remove the lifter guide bolts.
7. Remove the lifter guide.

Important:  Place the valve train parts in a rack in order to ensure that they are installed in the same location from which they were removed.

8. Remove the lifter(s).
9. Clean and inspect the valve lifter(s). Refer to Valve Lifters Cleaning and Inspection.

Installation Procedure

Important:  Install the lifters to the same location from which they were removed.

1. Install the lifters and the lifter guide. 
2. Install the valve rocker arms and pushrods. 
3. Install the lower intake manifold.  
4. Install the upper intake manifold. 
5. Install the engine right side valve rocker arm cover. 
6. Install the engine left side valve rocker arm cover.
