Information on Higher Than Mid Point Reading for Engine Coolant Temperature Gage - Normal Condition
Models:
2004 Buick Rendezvous Ultra
with 3.6L V6 Engine (VIN 7 - RPO LY7)
If a customer comments that the engine temperature gage reading goes past the mid point of the gage under normal driving conditions, please explain that
heat soak conditions, such as stop and go traffic, or high ambient temperatures may cause the higher than mid point reading.
The placement of the engine coolant temperature sensor in the cylinder head is very sensitive to normal temperature variations under normal operating
conditions. The temperature gage is reacting to these slight temperature increases and decreases. If the temperature gage is reading somewhat past the
mid point of the gage and the vehicle is operating normally, no work should be performed.
If the temperature gage reading is in, or close to the red overheat zone, verify that the engine coolant temperature is above 225°F (107°C). If the coolant
temperature is excessive, follow normal cooling system diagnostics in the appropriate section of the Service Manual.
