Install overdrive unit into fourth gear clutch housing, then thrust bearing, thrust washer and turbine shaft snap ring, Fig. 2.

Lubricate clutch plates with transmission fluid, then install in the following order: 1 steel plate, 1 composition plate, 2 steel plates, 1 composition
plate and 1 backing plate (micro-finish down).

Install fourth gear clutch snap ring, Fig. 1.

Position suitable dial indicator on turbine shaft end, then set indicator to zero. Move turbine shaft upward by pushing up from the convertor side.
The overdrive unit end play should be .004 in. to .029 in. If overdrive unit is outside specifications, a corrective selective thrust washer should be
chosen, Fig. 6, and installed as shown in Fig. 2.

Install sprocket housing cover and gasket, then torque attaching bolts to 3 ft. lbs.
