Turn Signal Switch: Service and Repair

1.
On models with airbag, disarm airbag as outlined under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG DEACTIVATION Failure to do so may
result in accidental deployment of airbag, possibly causing personal injury.
2.
Disconnect battery ground cable and remove steering wheel, then inflator module if equipped, as outlined under STEERING SUSPENSION
CHASSIS AND BODY COMPONENTS/STEERING/COMPONENT REPLACEMENT REPAIR PROCEDURES/STEERING WHEEL.
3.
Remove lower steering column trim cover.
4.
Mount spring compressor J 23653 or equivalent on steering shaft, Fig. 5.
5.
Remove lock plate retaining ring and telescoping wheel components, as equipped, then remove spring compressor.
6.
Remove lock plate, canceling cam, upper bearing spring, then upper bearing inner race and seat.
7.
Remove multi-function lever.
8.
Remove turn signal switch retaining screws and the switch assembly.
9.
Reverse procedure to install noting the following:
a. On models with airbag, after all work has been completed, rearm airbag as outlined under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG
DEACTIVATION.
