Brake Caliper: Service and Repair
Caliper Removal

1.
Drain approximately 2/3 of brake fluid from master cylinder assembly.
2.
Raise and support vehicle, then remove tire and wheel assembly.
3.
Loosen tension on parking brake cable at equalizer.
4.
Remove retaining clip from parking brake lever, if equipped, disconnect cable, then remove spring and damper, Fig. 2.
5.
Hold parking brake lever, remove locknut.
6.
Remove lever, lever seal, and anti-friction washer.
7.
Bottom piston into caliper bore to provide clearance between linings and rotor.
8.
Reinstall anti-friction washer, lever seal (sealing bead against housing), lever, and locknut.
9.
If caliper is to be serviced, remove inlet fitting attaching bolt, then disconnect and plug inlet fitting. Do not crimp brake hose, as this may
damage internal structure of hose. If only shoe and lining assemblies are to be replaced, do not disconnect brake line.
10.
Remove caliper mounting bolts, then lift caliper from bracket. If only shoe and lining assemblies are being replaced, suspend caliper from chassis
with suitable hanger. Do not allow caliper to hang from brake hose.
11.
Remove insulators from caliper bracket, if equipped.
