Wheel Speed Sensor: Service and Repair
Left Front Wheel Speed Sensor
REPLACEMENT
NOTE: Left and right front wheel speed sensors are not interchangeable.
1. Disconnect wheel speed sensor connector, then remove hub and bearing assembly as described in appropriate chassis section.
2. Clean all dirt and debris away from sensor and housing, then use a suitable screwdriver to pry wheel speed sensor slinger gently away from hub.
Discard used slinger.
3. Use a suitable screwdriver to pry wheel speed sensor gently away from bearing.
4. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Do not add grease to wheel bearing through sensor housing opening.
b. Do not clean grease from toothed sensor ring; it will not affect sensor operation.
c. Apply Loctite 620, or equivalent, to bearing hub outer groove prior to sensor installation.
d. When installing sensor in hub, position hub assembly in holding tool No. J 38764-4, or equivalent, and install sensor using sensor installation
tool No. J 38764-1, or equivalent.
