SUBJECT:
CLICKING NOISE "SHOE SLAP" FROM REAR BRAKES (REPLACE BRAKE DRUMS)
MODELS AFFECTED:
1992 ROADMASTER SEDANS
CONDITION:
Some owners of Roadmaster sedans built prior to VIN NR460328 and with JA2 brakes may comment of a "clicking" type noise coming from the rear
brakes during apply.
CAUSE:
Improper machining creates a "thread like" pattern on the drum braking surface which causes the brake shoes to move out in the drum and then "click or
slap" back on the backing plate.
CORRECTION:
A new brake drum was released for production on all sedans with JA2 brakes. This drum has a revised surface finish to reduce "shoe slap" on drum
brakes. If a vehicle is found with this condition, REPLACE BOTH brake drums with the new P/N 1244646.
