Tool Required: J 26549-E Expansion Tube Remover

1. Refrigerant. Discharge system and recover refrigerant.
2. Connector at evaporator tube assembly (65) to condenser line.

A. Seal open end of condenser line with tape an approved plastic cap to prevent dirt moisture contamination.
B. Discard seal (62).

3. Evaporator tube assembly (65) at evaporator inlet port.

A. Remove nut (76) holding evaporator tube assembly (65) to evaporator inlet port.
B. Pull evaporator tube assembly (65) forward to remove it.
C. Seal open evaporator inlet port with tape or an approved plastic cap to prevent dirt or moisture contamination.
D. Discard gasket (74).

4. Expansion tube (52) with J 26549-E.

A. Discard seal (56).
B. If expansion tube (52) is restricted or plugged so it is difficult to remove, the following procedure is recommended.

a. Remove as much of residue as possible.

b. Carefully apply heat with beat gun such as a hair dryer or an epoxy dryer near open end of evaporator tube assembly (65). Do not overheat

pipe.

c. While applying heat, grip expansion tube (52) with J 26549-E and use a twisting push-pull motion to loosen impacted expansion tube (52)

and remove it.

C. Seal open end of evaporator tube assembly (65) with tape or an approved plastic cap to prevent dirt or moisture contamination.

Clean

-

Evaporator tube assembly interior in expansion tube area, if evaporator tube assembly (65) is to be reused.

-

Expansion tube (52), if it is to be reused.

A. Blow off any metal chips, flakes, slivers and other contaminants with air hose.
B. Clean expansion tube (52) in solvent and dry it.

Inspect

-

Expansion tube (52), if it is to be reused.

-

Discard if plastic frame is broken. Discard if filter screen is torn, damaged or plugged with fine gritty material.

-

Discard if brass orifice tube is damaged or plugged.

Install or Connect

1. Expansion tube (52) and seal (56).

A. Coat new seal (56) with refrigerant oil and fit it onto expansion tube (52).
B. Insert expansion tube (52) into open end of evaporator tube assembly (65) to evaporator with smaller screen end first. Install expansion tube

(52) until it stops, indicating proper seal seating.

2. Evaporator tube assembly (65) and seal (62) to condenser line fitting.

Note:  Coat new seal (62) with refrigerant oil to aid installation.

Tighten
-

Condenser line fitting nut to 24 Nm (18 lb. ft.) while holding evaporator tube assembly fitting with another wrench.

3. Evaporator tube assembly (65) to evaporator inlet port

A. Remove tape or cap from open end of evaporator inlet port.
B. Coat new gasket (74) with clean 525 viscosity refrigerant oil and install it.
C. In stall evaporator tube assembly (65) to evaporator inlet port.
