Heated Glass Element: Description and Operation

MANUAL A/C CONTROLS

    When the Ignition Switch is turned to "RUN," voltage is applied from Fuse 17 to the Rear Defogger Switch. When the Rear Defogger Switch is turned
to "ON," voltage is momentarily applied to the Rear Defogger Solid State Timer through CKT 39. When voltage is applied to the Rear Defogger Timer,
the Solid State Timer will close the internal contacts. The internal contacts remain closed until the defog cycle is complete or the Rear Defogger Switch
is turned "OFF." 
    When the internal contacts of the Rear Defogger Switch are closed, voltage from Fuse 15 is applied to the indicator, to CKT 293 and Rear Defogger
Grid. 
    The Rear Defogger Switch contains an internal timer to control the amount of time the internal contacts are closed. When the Ignition Switch is turned
to "RUN" and the Rear Defogger Switch is turned to "ON" for the first time, the defog cycle lasts 10 minutes. Further operation will result in 5 minute
defog cycles. The defog cycle is reset to 10 minutes when the Ignition Switch is turned to "OFF" and back to "RUN."

ELECTRONIC A/C CONTROL

    When the Ignition Switch is turned to "RUN," voltage is applied from Fuse 6 to the Electronic A/C Control Assembly and the Rear Defogger Switch.
When the Rear Defogger Switch is pressed to "ON," voltage is momentarily applied to the Defog Request input of the Rear Defogger Solid State Timer.
Once requested, the timer will close the internal contacts from terminal "H" to terminal "2" of the Control Assembly, lighting the "ON" Indicator and
energizing the coil of the Rear Defogger Relay with voltage applied from Fuse 4 and CKT 640. When the Rear Defogger Relay contacts close, voltage is
applied from Fuse 15 and CKT 60 to CKT 293, and Fuse 16 to the Heated Mirrors. 
    The Solid State Timer within the Control Assembly contains an internal timer to control the time the internal contacts are closed. When the Ignition
Switch is turned to "RUN" and the Rear Defogger Switch is turned to "ON" for the first time, the defog cycle lasts 10 minutes. Further operation will
result in 5 minute defog cycles. The defog cycle is reset to 10 minutes when the Ignition Switch is turned to "OFF" and back to "RUN."
