SUBJECT:
CORRECT OIL FILL LEVEL AND FILTER
MODELS AFFECTED:
1982 THRU 1984 SKYHAWK WITH 1.8L OHC (VIN CODES O AND J) ENGINE
There has been some confusion about the correct oil fill level and filter on the 1.8L OHC (VIN codes O and J) engine used on the Skyhawk.
Oil Fill Level
1.
For 1982 and 1983 - the correct fill is 2.8 liters (3.0 quarts) with or without filter change.
2.
For 1984 - the correct fill is 3.8 liters (4.0 quarts) with or without filter change.
Whenever changing oil, the quantity listed should be added, then the oil level should be checked following instructions in Section 5 of the Owner's
Manual. Oil should then be added to bring the level up to the "FULL" mark on the dipstick.
Oil Filter
The filter listed for 1982 and 1983 is the PF40. For 1984, the filter is the PF47. In all instances, the PF47 can be used. The difference is that the PF47
has an anti-drainback valve. A.C. Delco is combining oil filter usages, and will supply a PF47 when a PF40 is ordered.
