Wastegate: Testing and Inspection
Prior to performing any diagnostic or testing procedure, check all vacuum hoses and wiring for proper routing and connections, actuator linkage for
freedom of movement, wastegate linkage for damage, or any problems which may occur in a non-turbocharged engine. A turbocharged engine has
exhaust pipes located high in the engine compartment. Care must be taken to avoid accidental contact with hot exhaust pipes as personal injury
may occur.
WASTEGATE-BOOST PRESSURE TEST
1.
Inspect actuator linkage for damage.
2.
Check throttle body to wastegate hose and wastegate solenoid to actuator assembly hose for damage.
3.
Tee the hand operated vacuum/pressure pump J-23738 in series with gauge J-28474 to actuator assembly, replacing wastegate solenoid to actuator
assembly hose.
4.
Apply pressure to the actuator assembly. At approximately 4 psi the actuator rod should move .015 inch, actuating the wastegate linkage. If not as
specified, replace actuator assembly and calibrate assembly to open at 4 psi. Crimp adjustment barrel on actuator rod to maintain correct
calibration.
