Timing Chain Idler Gear: Service and Repair
Installation

INSTALL OR CONNECT

1. Coat the bearing to chain housing mating surfaces with Adhesive/Sealant Compound GM P/N 12345493 or equivalent.

Carefully follow the instructions included with the adhesive product to insure proper bearing retention.

2. With J 36998-4 or equivalent installed on the front of the chain housing, install the new bearing into the chain housing using J 36998-1 and J

36998-2 or equivalents. 

3. Install J 36998-3 or equivalent into the back side of the chain housing between the coolant pump studs.

The tool supports the inner race of the bearing when pressing in the timing chain idler sprocket.
