Dear Buick Owner:
This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
REASON FOR RECALL
General Motors has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in some 1988 and 1989 Buick Skylark model vehicles equipped
with Quad 4 engines. The Front Fuel Feed Hose Assembly could crack or separate at the coupling on the engine end of the hose assembly, allowing fuel
to leak into the underhood area. Under certain circumstances, this could result in an underhood fire.
WHAT WE WILL Do
To prevent this condition from occurring on your vehicle, we will inspect and, if require, replace the hose assembly. This service will be completed for
you at no charge.
WHAT YOU SHOULD DO
Please contact your Buick dealer as soon as possible to arrange a service date. Instructions have been sent to your dealer and parts are available. Please
ask your dealer if you wish an estimate of the total time needed to schedule, process and return your vehicle. Included in this time would be about twenty
(20) minutes for a technician to perform the work required.
Even if you believe your vehicle was previously repaired for the above described condition, please contact your dealer. Your dealer may need to inspect
your vehicle to ensure it has the correct part installed.
Your Buick dealer is best equipped to provide service to ensure your vehicle is corrected as promptly as possible. However, if you take your vehicle to
your dealer on the agreed service date, and he does not remedy this condition on that date, or within five days, we recommend you contact the Buick
Customer Assistance Center, Flint Home Office, by calling 800-521-7300.
After contacting your dealer and the Buick Home Office, if you are still not satisfied that we have done our best to remedy this condition without charge,
within a reasonable time, you may wish to write the Administrator, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 400 Seventh Street, S.W.,
Washington, DC 20590, or call 800-424-9393 (Washington, DC residents use 366-0123).
The enclosed Owner Reply Card identifies your vehicle. Presentation of the card to your dealer will assist in making the correction in the shortest
possible time. If you have sold or traded your vehicle, please let us know by completing the postage-paid Owner Reply Card and returning it to us.
