SUBJECT:
REAR BRAKE SQUAWK AND LOW SPEED ABS CYCLING (REPLACE REAR BRAKE LININGS)
MODELS AFFECTED:
1992-93 SKYLARK
CONDITION:
Some owners of 1992-93 Skylarks may comment on a low speed ABS cycling and a squawk when coming to a complete stop. If this condition exists,
some vehicles may exhibit chafed or surface cracks in brake linings.
CAUSE:
Heavy duty brake cycling may create added heat which could result in some deterioration of the brake linings. This deterioration may polish the drums
and increase the symptoms of this condition.
CORRECTION:
Vehicles that experience any or all of the above conditions should replace the rear brake linings with p/n 12321412 service brake lining kit. The rear
drums will need to be resurfaced. Only a light cut across the drums will be necessary to remove the polished surface. Do not sand drums after refinishing.
Sanding tends to polish the drums which is not desirable.
