Parking Brake Cable: Service and Repair
Front
REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Raise vehicle and suitably support.
2. Bend tang on connector to allow cable removal.
3. Pull and hold cable towards the rear of the car to create slack in cable.
4. Cable from connector, equalizer assembly, and fold over clip.
5. Lower vehicle.
6. Parking brake cable from reel assembly.
NOTE: Use caution when removing spring. This is to avoid hitting and knocking self adjusting spring loose.
7. Cable conduit fitting from lever assembly while depressing retaining tangs.
8. Remove left rocker panel/door sill plate.
9. Grommet from floor pan and cable from center 2 body clips.
10. Front cable.
INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Parking brake cable to lever and reel assembly.
2. Cable conduit fitting securing cable to lever assembly.
3. Grommet to floor pan, grommet retainer, and center to body clips.
4. Left rocker panel/sill plate.
5. Raise vehicle and suitably support.
6. Cable through fold over and equalizer to connector and route under left rear brake line.
7. Lower vehicle.
8. Fully apply and release foot brake 4-6 times to self adjust system.
NOTE: Parking brake adjustment is not necessary. This is a self adjusting system and damage may result from attempting to adjust or modify this
system in any way. It may be necessary to adjust rear brakes to obtain the proper tension in the system.
