Suspension Spring ( Coil / Leaf ): Service and Repair
WARNING: When removing rear springs do not use a twin-post type hoist. When certain fasteners are removed from the rear axle assembly
the arc the axle swings may have a tendency to cause the hoist to slip, which may cause personal injury. Perform operation on floor if necessary
.
REMOVAL
Remove or disconnect the following:
1. Raise vehicle and suitably support. Use a frame contact hoist if possible and support the rear axle with jackstands. If necessary to lift vehicle with
a twin post hoist, lift by tires and support the axle or body with jackstands.
2. Tire and wheel assembly.
3
Right and left brake line bracket attaching screws from body and allow brake line to hang free.
4. Right and left shock absorber lower attaching bolts.
CAUTION: Do not suspend rear axle by brake hoses. Damage to hoses could result.
5. Lower rear axle and remove spring(s) and/or insulator(s).
INSTALLATION
Install or connect the following:
1. Springs and insulators in seats and raise axle. The ends of the lower coil in the spring must be positioned in the spring seat and within 15 mm
(9/16 inch) of the spring stop.
2. Shock absorbers to rear axle.
Tighten lower shock absorber mounting nuts to 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.).
3. Brake line brackets to body.
Tighten brake line bracket screws to 11 Nm (97 inch lbs.).
4. Tire and wheel assembly.
5. Remove jackstands and lower vehicle.
