SERVICE REPLACEMENT CRANKSHAFTS FOR 2.5L ENGINES (VIN CODES R AND U)
MODELS AFFECTED: 1980-85 SKYLARKS 1982-87 CENTURYS 1985-87 SOMERSETS 1986-87 SKYLARKS
All service replacement crankshafts for 2.5L engines, Codes R and U, in subject vehicles are produced on current production tooling. All dimensions and
specifications are identical to production.
The new crankshaft for VIN Code R engines, Part Number 10044299, does however, have the current production reluctor ring cast on the shaft. This
ring has no effect on the installation or performance of the crankshaft when used on earlier engines. The new crankshaft for VIN Code U engines, Part
Number 10043081, has both the production reluctor ring and gear teeth cast on the shaft. Again, these changes will have no effect on the installation or
performance of the crankshaft when used on earlier engines. This bulletin is for information only.
