10. Gear inlet and outlet hose assemblies from rack and pinion steering gear.
11. Move rack and pinion assembly forward and remove lower pinch bolt from flange on coupling assembly.
12. Coupling from rack and pinion.
13. Dash seal from rack and pinion.
14. Rack and pinion through left wheel opening.
Important: If studs were removed with mounting clamps, reinstall studs into front of dash and tighten until the studs are fully seated against the
dash panel. The torque should not exceed 20 Nm (15 lbs ft.). After second reuse of stud, thread locking kit GM P/N 1052624 or equivalent must
be used.
Install or Connect
1. Rack and pinion through left wheel opening.
2. Dash seal on rack and pinion assembly.
3. Move rack and pinion assembly forward and install coupling on rack and pinion.
4. Flange and coupling lower pinch bolt.
Tighten
Tighten lower pinch bolt to 41 Nm (30 lbs. ft.).
5. Gear inlet and outlet hose assemblies to rack and pinion steering gear.
Tighten
Tighten power steering lines to 27 Nm (20 lbs. ft.).
6. Hand start clamp nuts. Tighten left side clamp nuts to specification first, then tighten tight side amp nuts to specification.
Tighten
Tighten rack and pinion mounting nuts to 30 Nm (22 lbs. ft.).
7. Raise vehicle.
8. Tie rod ends to struts and cotter pins after torquing nuts to specifications.
Tighten
Tighten tie rod end bolts to 60 Nm (44 lbs. ft.).
9. Left front tire and wheel assemblies and tighten to specifications.
10. Line retainer (if applicable).
11. Lower vehicle.
12. Steering column upper pinch bolt.
Tighten
Tighten upper pinch bolt to 41 Nm (30 lbs. ft.).
13. Left sound insulator.
14. Fill reservoir with power steering fluid and bleed air from system.
15. Check toe setting and adjust as required.
Inspect: For leaks.
