Fuel Gauge: Component Tests and General Diagnostics

1. If the FUEL display show empty with gas in the tank, there is a short in the vehicle circuit. Open C404, which is near the fuel tank.
   a.

If the display now indicates full, the sender or the wire to it is shorted. Install a new fuel tank unit.

   b.

If the display continues to indicate E, locate and repair the short in the PNK(30) wire.

2. If the FUEL display shows full and flashes, there is an open in the circuit. Open C404, the connector near the fuel tank, and connect terminals

A(PNK) and B(BLK) of the harness half together.

   a.

If the display now indicates empty, the vehicle wiring is good. Install a new fuel tank unit.

   b.

If the display remains flashing, locate and repair the open in the PNK(30) wire or the BLK(150) wire to ground.
