Seal Replacement - Intermediate Steering Shaft

J 42640 Steering Column Anti-Rotation Pin

Removal Procedure

1. Notice: 

The wheels of the vehicle must be straight ahead and the steering column in the LOCK position before disconnecting the steering column or
intermediate shaft from the steering gear. Failure to do so will cause the coil assembly in the steering column to become uncentered which will
cause damage to the coil assembly.

Lock the steering column using the J 42640.

2. Remove the dash insulator.
3. Disconnect the intermediate shaft seal from the steering column.
4. Disconnect the intermediate shaft from the steering column. 
5. Push the intermediate shaft down in order to collapse the intermediate shaft.

6. Remove the intermediate shaft seal bolts.

7. Important: 

It may be necessary to remove the lower portion of the intermediate shaft seal from the steering gear.

Remove the intermediate shaft seal.

Installation Procedure

1. Install the intermediate shaft lower seal over the intermediate shaft and to the steering gear.
2. Install the intermediate shaft upper seal over the lower seal and to the instrument panel.
3. Connect the intermediate shaft to the steering column. 
4. Connect the intermediate shaft seal to the steering column.
