Service Procedure
Notice:
Before programming a control module, the following must be observed, or control module damage may occur:

The Tech 2 and TIS Data version 5.0 or later.
^
The vehicle battery must be fully charged. The battery voltage should be between 12-14 volts.
^
A battery charger must NOT be connected to the battery when programming a control module.
^
Turn OFF or disable any system that may put a load on the vehicle's battery, such as the following components:
- Twilight sentinel
-
Interior lights
-
Daytime running lights (DRL)--Applying the parking brake, on most vehicles, disables the DRL system. Refer to the owner manual.

Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems
-
Engine cooling fans, radio, etc.

The ignition switch must be in the proper position. The Tech 2 prompts you to turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. DO NOT change
the position of the ignition switch during the programming procedure, unless instructed to do so.

Make certain all tool connections are secure, including the following components and circuits:

The control module Serial Data Link Tester
-
The RS-232 communication cable port
-
The connection at the data link connector (DLC)

The voltage supply circuits

DO NOT disturb the tool harnesses while programming. If an interruption occurs during the programming procedure, programming failure
or control module damage may occur.

DO NOT turn OFF the ignition if the programming procedure is interrupted or unsuccessful. Ensure that all control module and DLC
connections are secure and the TIS terminal operating software is up to date. Attempt to reprogram the control module. If the control
module cannot be programmed, replace the control module.
Reprogram the IPC and BCM with the latest calibrations available on TIS Data version 5.0 and later. This was sent to dealers on May 2, 2005 via
GM ACCESS. CD version 5.0 will also contain the same information and is expected to be mailed starting the week of 5/9/05 for GM, week of
5/16/05 for Saturn U.S., and the week of 5/23/05 for Saturn Canada.
1.
Prepare vehicle for programming. It is recommended that the vehicle windows be down and the doors closed.
2.
Connect the Tech 2 to the TIS terminal and the vehicle in preparation for Pass Thru programming. Turn on the Tech 2.
3.
Enter SPS programming and select "Pass Thru" programming and "Reprogram ECU".
4.
Enter the appropriate vehicle information and then click "Next".
5.
Select the IPC or Instrument Panel for programming.
6.
Program the IPC with the latest calibration following on-screen prompts.
7.
When programming of the IPC is completed, the BCM may be programmed.
8.
Enter SPS programming and select "Pass Thru" programming and "Reprogram ECU".
9.
Enter the appropriate vehicle information then click "Next".
